I'm Tim Willcox. I've lived on Park Street in the Victoria Park Heritage District for 22 years. I'm running to protect the Kitchener we already have.
Heritage conservation
Once a heritage building comes down, it never comes back. These buildings are our streetscape, our culture and our story. They are also the greenest buildings we have. I will stand against developers who want our Official Plan amended to suit their proposals, and I will hold the line on the heritage stock we have left.
Cleaner, greener parks and trails
Downtown Kitchener has little room for new parks, so the ones we have need to work. That means well lit, clean and safe. I will push for more frequent patrols by Waterloo Regional Police and City Bylaw, better lighting on our trails, and more waste receptacles with pickup that actually keeps up.
Property standards enforcement
Neglected property drags down a whole block. It lowers values, it discourages investment, and it lands hardest on the neighbours next door. I will push for stricter enforcement, real fines for negligent owners, and scheduled bylaw blitzes targeting overgrowth, debris, scrap and derelict vehicles.
The greenest building is the one we already have.
I was born and raised in Kitchener. For 22 years I have lived in the Victoria Park Heritage District, on Park Street, where my neighbours gave me a nickname I have never tried to shake.
I learned this from my parents. Non profits, service clubs, the festivals that make a city feel like a city. They showed me you do not wait to be asked.
So I have not waited. Heritage Kitchener Committee. Vice President of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, North Waterloo Branch. Jane's Walk guide and docent, leading people through the history of downtown on foot. Neighbours Day ambassador. Musicians on my porch every summer. The Grand River Blues Society. And at the Kitchener Blues Festival: stagehand, assistant stage manager, main stage manager, and assistant to the president.
Twenty years of doing the work without the title. I am asking for the title so I can do more of it.
